Shooting up Madison

Posted by: davidejackson at 9:54 pm

Larry, Melanie, Zoee, and I opted for a walk on State Street in Madison yesterday afternoon. Larry grabbed a Canon Rebel XTi from his part time job at Circuit City, and wanted to learn a tad. I gave him the one-minute-nickel tutorial in basic camera settings and broke him into the world of street photography. I however, decided not to bring a camera with me on our weekend trip. So, in the heat of the moment, I snagged Dad’s Powershot, and shot in classic point-and-shoot style, totally from the hip. Below are my pictures. Enjoy!

I found a pair of military issue “BCG’s” at Dad’s house and couldn’t resist…

Shooting up Madison

Matt and I had an exhausting past two days, shooting at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. Regardless of how tired we were when it was all said and done, we had a blasty blast! Mary Kay, Tasha, Twyla and Angie were awesome and more than hospitable to us. We stayed in a huge house on campus, ate some great food, and shared a ton of laughs! Special thanks go out Professor Dave for making the last session of the shoot truly memorable.

Time to download cards, recharge batteries, grab a cup of coffee and spend time with my family, whom I missed dearly!

More soon……

Shooting up Madison

Today, my friend Michelle called me to tell me that her mother had passed away after an un-diagnosed and very fast moving illness. In the short time I knew Barb, she showed so much love and caring to the people that surrounded her. She was truly an amazing soul. She will be missed greatly…

Around 3:30pm today, we had this odd mid-April blizzard of a snow storm, in which visibility was near zero. It lasted a very short time, but then the sky opened up with one of the most amazing sunsets I’ve seen in along time. Michelle called me to tell me that her mom had passed on. She had a spontaneous request for me to go out and shoot the sun emerging from clouds. I was at work, amdist a very busy day. Luckily, before walking out the door, I grabbed my 10D with an assortment of lenses. I nearly forgot it as I was already running behind. Thanks to God I remembered to grab it as I was leaving…

We will miss you Barb…

Shooting up Madison

Easter has fallen on my birthday this year! I’m now 33 (but don’t tell anyone, cause I look ever so youthful and think that I keep my young edge!) In the weeeee hours of the morning, I will hunt for Easter eggs with Mom, Tobin and Zoee (well, Tobin..)! We have strategically placed several (by now spoiled) eggs around the house. Not to mention an Easter Basket that resembles Christmas morning, complete with a jubilee of assorted games and candy that’ll keep this 3 year old awake for the next week and a half! Perhaps I’ll get something out of the deal…!?!?!??

Tobin had her second T-Ball practice today.. (and for you photography nerds, I shot it on a Canon 5D at 1600 ISO.)

Un-eventful, I know…but her sister was cheering on from the sidelines !

Happy Easter!

Shooting up Madison

I’ve hired a dork. Matt (my very trusted and long-time assistant) and I got to play around with my new studio-ish set-up. It’s awesome, and will yield some amazing photos in the months to come. Aside from shooting a total nerd (ahmmmm…Matt), we learned a ton about shooting in this setting.

The bummer is, this dork leaves for school in August. Photography School at Fullmouth University in England. Which means that I’ll be searching for another photography assistant, whom will possibly work with me on a much more permanent basis in the coming years. In the meantime, Matt and I are shooting a huge project next week! I’m so stoked! More details soon..

Keep it real,
~dave
