For the love of friends.
I’ve often told myself, that I’ll never shoot wedding photos for a friend or family member. For me, it just seems awkward. Walking into a friends wedding knowing I have to separate the fun from the business, has never seemed like an inviting idea. I have found in the past, that I put more pressure on myself than I typically do at other events, when shooting for a friend.
I’ve known Derek and Jeanna for the past year and a half. I met Derek at my “day job” well over three years ago. It wasn’t until winter of 2006, that we really came into our friendship with each other, and I had the opportunity to get to know Jeanna. It was then, that they fell in love with my photography work and approached me about shooting their wedding.
I never once second-guessed my decision.
After they told me more about their story and clued me into the amazing details they had planned, I couldn’t have been more stoked about letting my work speak for itself on their wedding day. I was flattered and so excited for the opportunity.
The wedding took place in Brandon, WI in Jeanna’s parents backyard. The food was amazing, Jeanna’s fathers hand-made wine was a perfect touch and the weather couldn’t have been better. After the wedding, we made it to some cool locations in the middle of a small town, to shoot their portraits. Everything about the day, truly defined their personalities.
Hands-down, the wedding was by far one of the classier weddings I have ever shot. More so than being given the chance to shoot some amazing images, I felt that I have been part of Derek and Jeanna’s lives and a become a member of their family.
