Rob and I shot this wedding with our very DEAR FRIEND Amy Johnston of Photo 98! We have known Amy for sometime now, and in fact, she has become more like family to us rather than an “associate shooter” (icky, impersonal term IMHO. Gross.)

Amy drove to Milwaukee from Peoria, IL to shoot with us. It was cool, because not only is she a VERY talented photographer, the three of us all share a mutual ideology of how wedding photographers should provide a total experience to their clients. Sure, we could have come in to Mary & Brian’s wedding and kept it utterly dry, humorless and at the same time awkward, but instead we all brought a ton of fun to the day. Both between ourselves and with our clients. Professionalism is very important, but we understand and value the principle of not taking ourselves very seriously. Ever.

And the cool thing is, working with Amy we NEVER once have that competitor feeling between us. We are first and foremost friends, then goofy photographers that are trying to make this whole thing look just a tad legitimate.

I LOVE THIS DANG FAMILY! OK, fine. They are my close friends. Although I’m by no means a fan of family photos, especially the traditional ones, this was cool. Despite bad weather, using lighting on ucky days can make a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE whilst shooting in adverse conditions. What awesome Christmas cards they will have…

If Ashton Kutcher can do it, anyone can! Right? It’s interesting to see the influx of wedding photographers into the market. One more reason to stay on top of your game and to never forget that the future is wide open. If you’re solely a wedding photographer, what will your business look like in 5 years? 10 years? 20? Just like the new Canon 5D Mark II with video capabilities. Vincent LaForet’s video is amazing, right? A great product with great capabilities. Perhaps a bit of a marketing tactic, letting people believe they can do the same without thousands of dollars in grip gear? Sure..

Welcome to a whole new set of rules and an interesting future.

Well, Hope’s actually my cousin’s daughter, but VERY much a part of my family! She was in town to visit Lawrence University, so I took her out to shoot in the FRIGID cold. Ok, it wasn’t that cold, but 31 degrees is rough on me right now.
