BRRRRR…
On a very last-minute whim after watching Tobin sing with her preschool in church this morning, Brett Stoddart and I hopped in the car to shoot some SIMPLE+DIRTY work. I shot him a text message this morning, confirming our appointment. The dialog went something like this:
Dave: We still on??
Brett: Well. Have you been outside? Rumor has it 30 below with the windchill
Dave: Yeah. It’s dang cold.
Brett: OK, 1:30pm. I have to thaw and redress.
Dave: I have to go to Fleet Farm and get some snow pants.
Brett: I don’t even own snow pants.
Dave: Uhhh, too bad for you.
It was brutal. Even though the temperature without the wind licking at your face hovered around -5 degrees F, I was determined to shoot. I was in desperate need of getting out of the house, to shoot and focus on things other than people. What better day to shoot SIMPLE+DIRTY work than on a day where you could freeze to death or loose fingers in a matter of a minutes? PERFECT!
First stop was a house in the Town of Larrabee in Waupaca County. We spent maybe 10 minutes in the house total, between car door slams. Not only did I feel like I wasn’t supposed to be in this house, but by the time I made it upstairs I could no longer feel my fingers. Hand warmers did nothing. When I told Brett it was time to vacate the house, I got the goofiest look EVER. This location was once an Auto Salvage shop, sans cars. But it was rad as hell!

The second location was an old, large, one-room school house in the Town of Dupont. This place didn’t seem as cold, but the wind wasn’t cutting through the open windows like the house in Larrabee. The floors were extremely unstable here and it was infested with mice & rats. This was a 15 minute stop. Brett was kind enough to tell me my cheeks were turning bright red and it was time to get warm.
