That’s right. I don’t shoot kids and babies. I find myself becoming immensely frustrated within a few minutes of being behind the camera while making goofy sounds to grab a kid’s attention, painfully contorting my back to get low enough to the ground to get a decent angle and getting awkward looks from parents when I’m red in the face and about ready to blow my top.
Don’t get me wrong. I love to shoot photos of my girls and the occasional session for friends and family, but the kids and babies genre of photography is not in my portfolio. Nor do I market myself accordingly in the photography industry. Yet somehow I find myself awkwardly delving into the sport, much like a matador stepping into a bullring for the first time to fight three very angry bulls. I’ve discovered that when I shoot this type of stuff, it has to be on my terms. I have to shoot this stuff much like how I shoot any other project out there.
Below are some shots I took yesterday in my kitchen on white seamless. We were able to make some pictures of my two girls and the neighbor’s kids. Yeah, I’m no Anne Geddes..

I cracked open a beer mid-way through the shoot.

I had the awesome opportunity to participate in a service project today with my church San Damiano, along with The Mission Church from Appleton. We headed out to Father Carr’s Place 2B homeless shelter in Oshkosh this morning to help out with some much needed chores around the facility. Father Carr’s shelter is a really awesome place, helping people regain a solid life within the community. We cleaned a ton a dormitory rooms in the time we were there. It was a very fulfilling day!
Below are some shots I grabbed throughout the day while washing windows and vacuuming.

Jamie Tworkowski from To Write Love On Her Arms was recently interviewed by John Norris of SPIN Magazine at SXSW 2009. Check it out!
Basement book shelves, glass block, paneling, parking ramps and an alleyway with gale-force winds. It was a good afternoon.
Trevor and I hit up a vacant law firm in downtown Appleton to shoot with Kristine and Kyle. Nothing quite SIMPLE+DIRTY worthy, but we managed to knock out some killer shots. Not to mention we made it back to my house a little late for some amazing lasagna. Cool couple, no doubt!

Damn. I fell in love with that orange jacket. I want walls filled with that color in my house! Much respect to Kristine for great taste in choosing a stunning clothing color palette.
