20 RANDOM PORTRAITS IN 20 MINUTES

Posted by: davidejackson at 9:49 pm

It seems as if any time I get with my friend Matthew, things end up being a tad awkward. Photographically speaking. It’s been quite a while since I spent a decent amount of time with him, as he is a full-time photography student at University Falmouth in Cornwall, UK. And it was time well spent.

After a refreshment (or two) downtown Appleton, we had the notion to get out and make pictures for the mere sake of killing time. With his Nikon D700 in my hands and a large softbox at our disposal, we took to the streets of College Avenue to create random portraits of random people we found patronizing the cigar lounge and lingering in the streets late into the evening.

Awesome. And awkward.

This is the tip of the iceberg for this type of work. Our plan is to see if we can set-up white seamless on the sidewalk in the next week or two and shoot another series. Providing we don’t get shut down by order of local ordinance. I’ll keep you posted..

20 RANDOM PORTRAITS IN 20 MINUTES

Posted by: davidejackson at 9:49 pm

The senior portrait season hit late this year for me, but I can’t say how stoked I am to get out and shoot with all my clients this year! Jenna is first up in a steadily growing line-up of senior class portraits I’m shooting this summer. As many know, I could shoot this stuff all day long and not even break a sweat. Jenna was a diehard trooper, letting me drag her and two of her friends into some sketchy, yet kick-butt locations.

Check it out..

20 RANDOM PORTRAITS IN 20 MINUTES

Posted by: davidejackson at 9:49 pm

I finally dug the roll of 35mm film out of my Canon EOS-1n from the fashion shoot I did in Nashville back in February with my good friend Michael Howard and had it processed. I shot this on Fuji Pro 400H 35mm film (which by-the-way, almost broke the bank to purchase.) These are scans right off the negatives with zero color correction or Photoshop, aside from resizing for the web.

Nothing ground-breaking here, but I’m excited to see that I still have it in me to properly expose film. Eat your heart out Canlas.

20 RANDOM PORTRAITS IN 20 MINUTES

Posted by: davidejackson at 9:49 pm

Last night I had the pleasure of working with the Seeking Focus Photography Association, a local photography group based in Appleton, conducting an on-location shoot. Although I am not directly affiliated with group, I have been invited to speak to the group on a few occasions over the past two years. We had 23 photographers show up for the shoot, which was quite impressive, including a handful of new faces. We covered a lot of ground in a short amount of time, talking about the use of creative lighting on-location. Everybody had the opportunity to get in on the action after breaking up into smaller shooting groups to work with different models. Most everyone walked away with a little nugget of brand-spanking new information and hopefully had a revived spark of creativity.

Many thanks go out to Katie, Nora and Phil for being great models and helping out with the shoot!
