This past August I had the chance to work with the Atlanta-based band Norma Jean before their show at The Rave in Milwaukee. This was very different from many of the bands I shoot for a few reasons. First, I have been a diehard Norma Jean fan since the 2001 release of the album “Throwing Myself”, when the band was called Luti-Kriss. I had made a few connections at their record label Razor and Tie in NYC over the past year and reached out to them to see if I could get the band for a few photos while they were in Milwaukee on the Summer Slaughter Tour. This shoot differed from most of the band shoots I’ve done in which I fly across the country with my full team, rent a studio and highly produce a full day of sometimes rigorous shooting. I had the band for about 45 minutes and spent that time shooting “run and gun” style around The Rave. Not to mention I was more nervous shooting with these guys, than any other band I’ve shot before. Yeah, I’m that guy…
In the end I walked away with a few solid photos and had the opportunity to work with a band I dearly love. The guys are super cool and hopefully I’ll get a chance to do some more photo work in the coming years. Big thanks go out to the Norma Jean guys, their tour manager Luke, the Razor & Tie folks and Jadon Good (for helping out on the shoot). Below are some of the final images!
Here are a few live shots from their set at The Rave:
Check out their video for their first single from Wrongdoers, “If You Got It At Five, You Got It At Fifty”. Soooo good….
